MASTEP Evaluation Summary
This product was evaluated in at least one third-party study. See MASTEP Evaluation Summary.
In Brief:
Several different types of pavement were installed in a parking lot serving Walden Pond in Concord, MA. After testing, two of the pavement mixes were considered suitable for use as porous pavement. The porosity of the two mixes (identified as "K" and "J3") were 23% and 16% respectively. The two pavement mixes were constructed according to the following formulae: K particle size: 100% smaller than 1/2 inch, 92% < 3/8 inch, 40% < #4 sieve size, 18% smaller than #8 sieve, 12% smaller than #16 sieve, 1% smaller than #200 sieve; Asphalt content 5%. J3 particle size: 100% smaller than 1/2 inch, 92% < 3/8 inch, 38% < #4 sieve size, 19% smaller than #8 sieve, 10% smaller than #16 sieve, 0.4% smaller than #200 sieve; Asphalt content 4.8%. These pavement mixes were lain over a three different base courses, consiting of: 1) 10.5 inches of ¾- 2inch stone overlaid by 1.5 inch of 3/8 inch stone. 2) 4 inches of ¾ - 2 inch stone beneath 1.5 inches of 3/8 inch stone, beneath 5 inches of ¾-2inch stone, beneath another 1.5 inch 3/8 inch stone. 3) 5 inches of ¾ - 2 inch stone beneath 1.5 inches of 3/8 inch stone.
